Helen with Pridey her greyhound on the beach in Cornwall

Hi, my name is Helen, the founder of Helens Pyrography.  I live in bewitching, rural Cornwall, surrounded by glorious coasts, countryside and nature, along with my boyfriend and beautiful pet greyhound. We actually moved here 10 years ago and totally fell in love with it’s slower pace of life, traditions, and wildlife.

I started learning pyrography about 5 years ago after attending a locally held day course. I had been in search of an art or craft which would also allow me to learn a new skill and after ‘having a go’ I immediately knew pyrography was the craft I had been looking for and that I wanted to learn more.

What is pyrography?  The art of pyrography, also known as wood burning, is the creation of designs on wood through the use of either a red hot soldering iron or wire tip.  The technique of burning by fire.  A variety of different woods can be used.  I use bass wood rounds, or locally acquired woods, such as oak, birch or willow.

Cornwall is such a magical place which inspires all kinds of artists, crafters and writers.  It’s influences can be seen in much of my pyrography art.  In my work I have tried to depict the Cornish coastal, nature and countryside as well as works which are completely different.

My work ranges from designs on coasters to portraits and burnings on quite large pieces of wood.  Subjects range from animals and nature to mystical and Celtic burnings to burnings of classic rock stars!

I have recently has included many pet portraits commissions, especially of cats, dogs and horses.

In the future I would like to work with galleries or shops in Cornwall or the West Country in order to bring the wonders of Cornwall and it’s wildlife to a growing audience through the medium of wood and fire.

Please take a moment to have a look at the present range of items on my gallery page.  All pieces are unique and commissions are taken on request according to specific requirements

To order in the first instance just email or message me, or just use the form provided on the order page of this website.  I will then get back to you for a chat and we can take it from there!
